1950-1980 - Seed 3 The most famous doll of them all came about in 1959 after creator Ruth Handler noticed her daughter Barbara liked putting her paper dolls in (clean) adult scenarios. A star was soon born, and girls all over felt just like little Barbara. Not without controversy, Barbie is often criticized for setting unrealistic physical expectations for young girls. Sure, she could use a cheeseburger, but there's no denying she's got style. |
