Publications Recognition Program Awards
|
The Publications Recognition
Program (formerly the Local Group Newsletter Award program, and even
earlier, the Editors' Awards), recognizes Local Groups, editors,
webmasters, and contributors for their involvement with local print and
electronic publications. The PRP awards are a voluntary program,
highlighting deserving newsletters and Web sites, with the overall goals
of wider distribution and better communication among Mensans. The
program allows Local Groups with any level of editorial experience,
regardless of size or publication budget, to compete fairly and win
awards.

Prior to 1983, the awards were
generally coordinated by the AMC Publications Officer, sometimes
overseeing a panel of judges but usually involving balloting by the
Local Group newsletter editors. A panel system was used for the
awards from 1971 to 1973; balloting was used from 1974 through 1979; and
a panel system was reinstituted in 1980. The current panel system,
with an AMC-appointed committee chair, began in 1983.
The specific purposes of the
program are to:
-
challenge and inspire local groups to produce publications and Web
pages that are well-written, well-designed, informative, and
entertaining, and that serve as appealing and available forums for their
members;
-
challenge and inspire local group members to contribute to these
forums; and
-
recognize and reward local groups, editors, webmasters, and
contributors for their accomplishments.
