Diversity of interests a testament to Mensa’s vibrancy

  • Oct 20, 2015
  • Barbara Kryvko, SIGs Officer

One of my favorite things about Mensa is the diversity of interests among our members. Every month, I try to feature SIGs that have something in common, but this month I pulled out a few SIGs that don’t seem to fit easily in any category. Try something different to wake up your brain this winter… try a new SIG!

UnderACHIEVERS

Are you working at a convenience store despite having multiple degrees? Have you an IQ in the ionosphere but no high school diploma? This is a discussion and support group for under- and other-achievers. You will find a sympathetic ear here.

Exceptionally Gifted SIG

This SIG provides a “meeting place” for members to share and explore experiences, ideas and concerns that can be unique to the exceptionally and profoundly gifted.

Lock & Ring M

If you sing barbershop and attend gatherings, join this group for tagging and story sharing. Visit our Facebook Group.

Global Risk Reduction

Objective: to evaluate risks of human extinction and develop ideas for reducing those risks.

Metacognition

Everything we experience or do is filtered through our minds; our relationship with all reality is a reflection of our thought stories. This SIG will network to explore thinking and better understand reality. Visit our Yahoo! Group.

Windward Community

Find out more about a full-time physical community of Mensans who are interested in renewable energy, sustainability and cooperative living by visiting windward.org.

ChildFree M’s

A group for childfree adults, who are childfree by choice not circumstance. Whatever your reasons for being childfree, from worries about overpopulation to preferring adult company, you will find a refuge here.

Holmesian Studies

Michael Halm has just rejoined Mensa and would like to revive the Baker Street Irregular scion he coordinated for many years, now that there is yet another miniseries and new books, like Murder in the Vatican (International members welcome).

Naturist

Interested in naturism? Most of us have been taught that we “need” clothing at all times, not just for protection from the elements. Here you can enjoy/discover the sense of freedom associated with social nudism.
