Annual financial activity reports

Local Groups are required to provide each fiscal year’s financial activity, with the reporting period being April 1- March 31. This critical information enables American Mensa to report properly to the Internal Revenue Service.

There are two important factors:

• The deadline is each April 30 for completing and sending this information to the National Office. Delays beyond the filing deadline could result in Local Group funding being withheld.
• If a Local Group files its own Form 990 (or any version of it, such as Form EZ or the Post Card), the group is required to submit a copy to the National Office each year by the April 30 deadline.

There are tools available to Local Group leaders to help you in this process:

• The Local Group Financial Statement template can be adapted for any group’s financial reporting. Groups may add revenue or expense line items to any of the categories, but the categories should remain unchanged.
• A sample template is also available to guide and assist in preparation, although use of this sample spreadsheet is not required. It contains fictional numbers to illustrate certain line items.
