She's a member, too | ISABELLA TAYLOR

A member since 2008, Isabella Taylor is a 12-year-old college freshman, artist and designer who now has a clothing line at Nordstrom. Her fashion line, which is described as "hippie-grunge, yet feminine," will launch for back-to-school later this year. Isabella lives in Austin, Texas.

Dress by number: I have been painting since I was 3, so painting and being creative have always been a part of my life. I see fashion as an extension of my painting.

Hobby to business: After sewing camp, I sewed my first line. I learned how to make patterns and all of that. I was fortunate enough to have my parents’ support to take it to the next level.

The roadblocks: Where to find good fabric is hard, definitely. I can picture fabric, but sometimes it doesn’t exist. Sometimes it’s hard to translate my ideas to clothes, or explain those ideas to others. That is always a bit of a struggle for me.

Inspired by: Stella McCartney, Chanel, and Marchesa. Stella McCartney is just so edgy and new. I’m so inspired by her. I also love classic pieces like Chanel’s, which are so timeless and are still so successful today.

Globe-trotting: Travel has inspired me a lot. I’ve traveled to amazing places like Iceland, Canada, England, and Turkey. Those have really been amazing experiences. I’m inspired a lot by other artists and color and other fashion designers, as well.

My style: I like to mix a lot of things. I am very into day-glam, which is sort of wearing nicer clothes but dressing them down and making them edgy and new — very street. My new collection is actually day-glam. So all my clothes are things that are missing from my closet and things I want to wear — things I think other girls would enjoy wearing, as well.

Social media is the new marketplace: I love Pinterest. I have a huge Pinterest account. I love pinning all my fashion inspirations and my art inspirations on there. I post my fashion line pictures, and I always have other tween girls re-pining and commenting. It’s really nice to hear their support and different reactions.

In the future: I’d love to go into accessories. Textiles would also be great. I want to make my own patterns and prints. In the next 10 years though, I really want to develop my aesthetic more in my art and my fashion. Overall, just become a more established brand.
