American Mensa's
2013 Annual Gathering
taking place July 3-7 in Fort Worth

ARLINGTON, TX June 10th, 2013 — Mensa members will meet in Fort Worth, Texas at the Worthington Renaissance Hotel, July 3 - 7. The 2013 Keynote Speaker for the event is “Governor of the Heart of Texas,” Kinky Friedman.

This five-day event happens every year during the Independence Day holiday and, is an opportunity for members of the high IQ organization to connect with colleagues and friends. This heritage event attracts both national and international members. Currently, attendees are coming from Texas, California, New York, Canada, Australia and Mexico. This year’s theme is Culture in Cowtown. Past gathering destinations have included Reno, Nevada; Orlando, Florida and New Orleans, Louisiana.

More than 250 lectures with a wide array of speakers and subjects including Alzheimer's genetic research, photography, the Alamo, Sherlock Holmes, and storm hunting will be offered.

The public may participate at three events open to non-members:

  • The Mensa Education & Research Foundation Colloquium “Between Science Fiction & Science,” Tuesday, July 2, 8:30 a.m. - 6:15 p.m. at the Worthington Renaissance Hotel, Grand Ballroom: Attendees are invited to explore how our boundless imagination is finding form within the boundaries of science. This is an exciting chance to interact with other bright minds on the current status of robotics, evolving military technology, and the new worlds being created by science fiction writers.  Speakers include Dave Goldberg, Professor at Drexel University's Department of Physics and author of A User's Guide to the Universe, award-winning science fiction authors Robert J. Sawyer, Todd Johnson McCaffrey and David Brin, and robotics expert Lt. Gen. Rick Lynch (U.S. Army, retired). There is a Colloquium registration fee of $69, which includes both morning and afternoon sessions and a buffet lunch.
  • American Mensa testing sessions, Wednesday, July 3, 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, July 6, 9:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at the Norris Conference Center: Test yourself to see if you have what it takes to be a member of Mensa!  All test takers will receive a one-day admission to the 2013 Mensa Annual Gathering.  Special pricing for the test at the Annual Gathering is $20.
