Mensa members rank classic board games in time for the holidays

Arlington, Texas, Nov. 29th, 2013 — Members of American Mensa have ranked the top 10 classic board games just in time for the gift-giving season.

Board games are a special focus for the high IQ community. Mensans named board games as a top ranked activity, plus the organization hosts Mensa Mind Games®, a national board game competition each April for new-to-market games.

Games of mystery, war, and financial domination made the final cut. The ultimate game of strategy, chess made the top of the list. Comments about the winner ranged from “Chess has always been, and will always be, the one board game that demonstrates best the intellectual and creative abilities of the players” to “Rather simple to learn, it provides a myriad number of ways to play it, so each game can be a new experience.”

Here are the top 10 list of board games, as selected by Mensa members:

  1. Chess
  2. Scrabble®
  3. Monopoly
  4. Trivial Pursuit™
  5. Backgammon
  6. Checkers
