Arlington, Texas, October 7th, 2013 — Gifted youth play an important part in all 132 chapters of American Mensa. There are more than 3,000 Mensa members under the age of 18 in this respected organization. Members include concert pianists, fashion designers and actors.

“No one knows better than Mensans how much gifted youth crave nearly constant intellectual stimulation,” said Mensa’s Gifted Youth Specialist, Lisa Van Gemert. “We are committed to helping parents and educators meet that need through the many and varied resources at  From award-winning lesson plans to activity ideas and TED Connections, we're ready to help you keep gifted brains engaged and challenged at home or school.”

Young members receive opportunities to attend in fun family events, interact with other children who share their love of learning, and participate through a variety of national initiatives including the Mensa Foundation’s scholarship program and the Mensa Honor Society.

As part of the October celebration, Mensa Testing Day is Oct.19.  Local Mensa chapters across the United States will host test sessions and other activities on this date. Taking this test is the first step to becoming a Mensa member and it only costs $40. Visit to find a testing session. Mensa tests prospective members who are 14 years or older.
