Mensa Heads To Austin For Annual Mind Games Competition

  • Apr 4, 2014

Arlington, Texas, April 4th, 2014 — Mensa Mind Games ® is one of the leading board game showcase competitions in the United States. This year, Mensa Mind Games will be hosted by the Austin Mensa Chapter at the Hilton Austin in Austin, Texas, on April 18-20.

The annual Mind Games event allows manufacturers to put their new-to-market games to the test as Mensa members play and rate each title. For 40 straight hours, members of the high IQ organization play these innovative games, judging them on aesthetics, instructions, originality, play appeal and play value, and then cast their ballots and comment cards. On the final day of the event, votes are tallied and five games receive the honor of bearing the Mensa Select® seal.  “This event showcases the wide variety of games that a board game connoisseur can choose from,” said 2014 Chief Judge Greg Webster. “This year’s competitors range from a game about sushi to a role-playing game about the Underground Railroad.” Winners will be announced on Monday, April 21.

The 2013 Mensa Select winners were Forbidden Desert™, Ghooost!, Kerflip!™, Kulami, and Suburbia.  Past winners include Scattergories™, Trivial Pursuit, Genus Edition™ and Apples to Apples®.
