New Zealand Saturday Seminar: AI Risks
- No group assigned
- November 7, 2026
Description:
There have been increasingly alarming stories coming to light in the last few months about potential risks, including existential risks, associated with AI. A growing number of technology leaders, politicians, and even King Charles and the Pope have weighed in with thoughts about how to protect humanity in the face of such risks.
This seminar is another in a series of experiments with non-speaker formats. In this one, the idea is for everyone to read this recent essay by Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and discuss it. If you only read one thing, please read that. If you want to do further reading, you might want to try this essay by Bill Gates. Or if you prefer to do some additional listening or watching, try this Hard Fork episode about what happened when a group of AI agents created by Open AI (the maker of ChatGPT) hacked Hugging Face, a company that tests AI models.
