NUKING THE MOON

During the 1950s Cold War, the U.S. military heard that the Soviets planned to explode a nuclear device on the Moon. Of course, the U.S. had to do it first, if that was true. So they called upon American scientists, including Carl Sagan, who decided it would not make for a very exciting spectacle. Given the technology of the time, there was also the possibility that they could miss the Moon entirely, which would have been terribly embarrassing. Note that this is an audio program, but you can turn on subtitles if you prefer. |
