The session will be held in the conference room of the Kennewick Branch of the Mid-Columbia Library at 1620 South Union St. in Kennewick. The conference room is directly across from the library's circulation desk. The test session will take about 90-120 minutes. Please be prompt, as I cannot accommodate you if you show up after we have begun the test. All testing materials will be furnished. You need only bring a government-issued photo ID, and a means to pay the test fee. If you are under 18 years of age on the day of the test, you will need a signed parental consent form. If this applies, let me know and I will get one to you. We cannot test anyone under 14 years of age on the day of the test, with or without a consent form. The fee to take the test is $60. You can purchase a test voucher online by going to http://www.us.mensa.org and following these prompts: 1. Click "Shop" 2. Click "Take the Mensa Admission Test" 3. Answer the two queries- 'Hearing about Mensa', and 'How Soon'...then press Next. 4. You should be directed to the shopping cart, which is pre-populated with one "Local Group Mensa Admission Testing" for $60 5. Check-out and pay. You will receive a form you should print out and bring to the test session. You can also pay on the day of the test via credit card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express) or with a check payable to "American Mensa." I prefer not to handle cash. Our local chapter has no control over test fees. Paying on the day of the test does not necessarily guarantee the 50% discount, so you're considerably better off purchasing a test voucher. That said, Columbia River Mensa (our local chapter) is offering a kind of rebate to potential new members. If you test, qualify for membership, and become a member of our chapter, the chapter will reimburse your testing fee. I know some of you live well outside the Tri-Cities area and find it difficult to come to Kennewick for a test session. If you can assist me in securing a test venue, I'm happy to come to you. Get in touch with me by email (see below) if this interests you and we can discuss the possibilities. Don't take the test if your sole interest is in getting an assessment of your IQ score. Admission to Mensa is based on a score in the upper two percent of any of the standardized tests Mensa accepts. The notice you receive from Mensa once your tests have been scored will contain either an invitation to join Mensa, or that you didn't qualify on the basis of your test score. It will not include the IQ score calculated from your test score. For this, you will need the services of a professional psychologist. You can also qualify for Mensa membership by submitting "prior evidence." This is an official report of a qualifying test, sent to American Mensa. More information about this is available at https://www.us.mensa.org/join/testscores/. I would appreciate getting a reply email, so I'll know how many people to expect. Please contact me if you require additional information. I hope to see you on the day of the test. Tim Dees, Testing Coordinator Columbia River Mensa treasurer@crm.us.mensa.org |
